Also known as: 太秦

A district in Ukyo Ward that also names stations on the Randen and JR lines. It is a celebrated hard-to-read name whose characters give no hint of the sound: tradition derives it from the Hata clan delivering silk piled high to the court, earning the title "Uzumasa" later written with the characters 太秦.
