Sen no RikyuSen no Rikyu

Also known as: 千利休

A tea master active from the Warring States into the Azuchi-Momoyama period who perfected wabi-cha, a style prizing austere spirituality. Favored by Oda Nobunaga and Toyotomi Hideyoshi, he ultimately drew Hideyoshi's anger and was ordered to commit seppuku in 1591. He stands at the source of the three Sen tea houses.
