A mid-Edo painter active in Kyoto and one of the artists who brought the Rinpa school to maturity. He is known for copying Tawaraya Sotatsu's National Treasure folding screen "Wind God and Thunder God," inheriting Sotatsu's bold composition and developing it into a more decorative manner.
