A castle tied to the Tokugawa family and the setting where, in 1867, the 15th shogun Tokugawa Yoshinobu declared the return of imperial rule in its Ninomaru Palace. The only castle among the 17 World Heritage sites, its Ninomaru Palace is a National Treasure.
