Kego DistrictKego

Also known as: 警固

A district in Chuo-ku, Fukuoka City, read 'kego' — a pronunciation that surprises those unfamiliar with the area. The name is preserved in Kego Shrine and Kego Park. It is believed to derive from an ancient 'keigo-sho,' a defensive post established to protect the Dazaifu government offices. Today it is a trendy residential and dining neighborhood just south of Tenjin.
